McBride Range Ski Traverse is an outstanding high alpine ski tour from Whistler to Garibaldi Lake through the heart of Garibaldi Park. The route travels through some of the most spectacular and wild big mountain terrain in all of South West BC. For 7 days you will weave your way through huge glaciers, passes, and sleeping under the stars.
McBride Traverse is a highly sought after classic coast range ski trip. The route starts on Spearhead Traverse before gaining the mighty McBride Range. Time permitting, there are many excellent optional ski ascents and descents enroute including: Decker, Patterson, Tremor(2691m), Sir Richard (2710m), The Gatekeeper (2350m), Forger Peaks (2410m), Isosceles Peak (2530m), Mt Carr (2590m), The Bookworms (2350m), and The Sphinx (2410m).
The trip is tent based accommodation with delicious meals.
Who’s it for:
You should be fit enough to carry an overnight pack in the mountains for multiple consecutive days. You should also be capable of skiing black diamond runs inbounds confidently.

Day 1: Blackcomb to Patterson Zone
7:30am Meeting in Whistler Villiage where we will review current conditions and gear for the trip. 8:30am avalanche response training. Afterwards we will take the chairlifts to the top of the Blackcomb Ski Area and begin our traverse. Expect to travel about 6 to 8 hours on the first day.
Day 2: Patterson to Naden Glacier.
Continuing along the Spearhead Traverse route, we will travel through the Patterson, Tremor, Platform Glacier, and RipSaw zones to reach our camp on the Naden Glacier. Spectacular views of the Spearhead Range and the McBride Range can be seen enroute.
Day 3: Naden to Sir Richard
Leaving the Spearhead Traverse route behind, we descend the Naden Glacier and ascend to the head of the Cheakamus river. From there we have a long gradual climb up the McBride Glacier to a high camp on Sir Richard Mountain. At this point we are on the spine of the mighty McBride Range. Highlights: long ski descent down Naden Glacier and high camp location is spectacular.
Day 4: Sir Richard to Drop Pass
Traverse along of the Ubyssey Glacier, through the legendary Gatekeeper, to reach Wolverine Pass. From where we cross the Snowbowl to reach the mighty Forger Glacier, wrapping around below impressive granite spires and finally into Drop Pass for the evening. Highlights: Gatekeeper and travelling through the big glaciated terrain on the Forger Glacier.
Day 5: Drop Pass to Gray Pass
Climb out of Drop Pass to reach a high elevation traverse along Hour Pk, Parapet Pk, and Mt Luxor. This is one of the most scenic viewpoints in all of Garibaldi Park. Highlights: The views and skiing through the notch on Cross Cut Ridge.
Day 6: Gray Pass to Sphinx Glacier
Ascend to the head of the Sphinx Glacier and enjoy a long ski descent to Garibaldi Lake and camp for the evening. Highlights include The Sphinx Peak, The Bookworms, and a optional ascent of Mt Carr.
Day 7: Garibaldi Lake to Rubble Creek
Ski across Garibaldi Lake and descend rubble creek trail to complete the traverse.
